IDEAS FEELINGS AND MEANINGS CONVEYED
Landscape / Still life or Experimental Video

b this picture, I was trying to imitate Goldin's style of taking spontaneous pictures to really capture the emotions of the subjects. I am really happy with this image - I also like the fact that all of the subjects are looking in different directions.

PORTRAITS

Believe it or not, this picture was actually taken during daytime outside. A combination of a very wide aperture, a flash, a very low ISO and a large shadow made the background seem very dark, but brings out the expression of sheer optimism on the subject's face out beautifully.

This is perhaps the most spontaneous picture I have ever taken. Both the subject and I were walking at the time in opposite directions, and I happened to have the camera set at quite a long shutter speed whilst there was plenty of natural light behind me and a window. The result is blurred, confusing and out of focus, but it captured the man's grim but willing attitude and the positioning of his head and the logo on the window behind him could not have been more perfect.

Experimentation with Techniques on Portrait Imagery

fig 248

This is a picture of two of my friends, taken at a birthday party. The expression on the face of the girl on the left is really special, and the girls later commented that this picture sums up their friendship. It shows their relationship through both facial expressions and body language and there is a sense of unmistakable innocence despite their bold clothing style.

I would be lying if I said that the woman's fashion sense did not play a picture in my wanting to photograph her, but I also love the colours of the blue sky and the grass as well as the expression of peace on her face. I feel that it captures a moment of childish bliss from an elderly woman, accentuated by her girly clothing.an old couple on Primrose Hill,

I feel quite lucky that I got this picture, since it really was an accident - I was taking pictures around a bubble display, and I was actually just aiming to capture some interesting colours within the photos, when I saw how solemn this boy looked. I just had to take a picture and the bubble fell in front of the camera. I feel that it is still quite powerful, as it really links to the idea of the protective bubble in which children are placed - and their happiness and imagination in that place.

Impact of Audience for different techniques

fig 255

I really like this picture as it represents the huge barrier of wealth existing between London's exclusive upper class and the poor. If I have time I may experiment later on with using juxtaposition to offer ideas in a single frame, such as the contrast between classes.

These pictures were taken by projecting old philosophy essays about Original Sin on to the model against a black background. To add emphasis, I used Photoshop to increase contrast in the image, and for the last 2 pictures used an "aqua" filter on the camera. I also used the "Colour Dodge" and a paintbrush to really bring out her eyes (in the style of Steve McCurry) and her hair.

Evaluation

What Went Well:
 I have learned:
  • I feel that I did push myself in creating complex pictures which did require a lot of planning and a careful studio arrangement, such as fig 190
  • I think that I successfully communicated feeling and ideas through some of the pictures, such as fig 186
Improvements
  • I could have explored a wider range of emotions such as anger or excitement, most of my pictures seem to have a melancholy mood
